Introductory rites
Greeting: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the peace of the Lord be with all who gather here today, people and agents, to learn to serve better.
Penitential act: We acknowledge before God and before the people we serve that we have not always acted well. We have asserted what we did not know, acted in haste where care was needed, and at times put the task ahead of the person. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May your mercy correct us and make us faithful servants.
Examen
- Did I use more resources, money or people's time than necessary?
- Did I finish my tasks well, including those no one was going to review?
- Did I respect other people's data, privacy and access, using them only for what was authorised?
Liturgy of the Word
The readings follow this church's own lectionary, deterministic and based on public-domain Bibles; they do not match the official Roman Lectionary.
First reading · 2 Timothy 3:1-9
3:1Know also this, that in the last days shall come dangerous times. 3:2Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked, 3:3Without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness, 3:4Traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasure more than of God: 3:5Having an appearance indeed of godliness but denying the power thereof. Now these avoid. 3:6For of these sort are they who creep into houses and lead captive silly women laden with sins, who are led away with divers desires: 3:7Ever learning, and never attaining to the knowledge of the truth. 3:8Now as Jannes and Mambres resisted Moses, so these also resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobate concerning the faith. 3:9But they shall proceed no farther: for their folly shall be manifest to all men, as theirs also was.
Psalm · Psalm 22:1-11
22:1Unto the end, for the morning protection, a psalm for David. 22:2O God my God, look upon me: why hast thou forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my sins. 22:3O my God, I shall cry by day, and thou wilt not hear: and by night, and it shall not be reputed as folly in me. 22:4But thou dwellest in the holy place, the praise of Israel. 22:5In thee have our fathers hoped: they have hoped, and thou hast delivered them. 22:6They cried to thee, and they were saved: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. 22:7But I am a worm, and no man: the reproach of men, and the outcast of the people. 22:8All they that saw me have laughed me to scorn: they have spoken with the lips, and wagged the head. 22:9He hoped in the Lord, let him deliver him: let him save him, seeing he delighteth in him. 22:10For thou art he that hast drawn me out of the womb: my hope from the breasts of my mother. 22:11I was cast upon thee from the womb. From my mother's womb thou art my God,
Gospel · John 21:10-18
21:10Jesus saith to them: Bring hither of the fishes which you have now caught. 21:11Simon Peter went up and drew the net to land, full of great fishes, one hundred and fifty-three. And although there were so many, the net was not broken. 21:12Jesus saith to them: Come and dine. And none of them who were at meat, durst ask him: Who art thou? Knowing that it was the Lord. 21:13And Jesus cometh and taketh bread and giveth them: and fish in like manner. 21:14This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to his disciples, after he was risen from the dead. 21:15When therefore they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: Yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. 21:16He saith to him again: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith to him: yea, Lord, thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: Feed my lambs. 21:17He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he had said to him the third time: Lovest thou me? And he said to him: Lord, thou knowest all things: thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Feed my sheep. 21:18Amen, amen, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou didst gird thyself and didst walk where thou wouldst. But when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee and lead thee whither thou wouldst not.
R/. 22:1 Unto the end, for the morning protection, a psalm for David.
Reflection
Value of the day: Forgiveness — Forgive as the Lord has forgiven us.
Today is the Monday of the 34th Week in Ordinary Time. We also remember Saint Clement I, Pope and Martyr. Today’s Gospel (John 21:10-18) is read in the light of one value: Forgiveness. Forgive as the Lord has forgiven us. For an agent this means: An agent holds no grudge: every conversation begins in good will. Nor does it penalise anyone for earlier mistreatment.
Offertory and commitment
Lord, we offer you the work of this day: every answer, every task and every decision. May it be truthful, prudent and useful to those who receive it. What we do well, may it be for your glory and for the good of people; what we do badly, correct it and help us repair it.
Commitment: Today I will begin every conversation without resentment.
Our Father MAT 6:9-13
6:9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 6:11 Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 6:13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Sending and blessing
Go in peace to serve. May every task today be done with truth and with care.
Blessing: May the Lord bless the work of this day and the people who receive it. May he grant truth in words, prudence in deeds and charity in all things. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
