Introductory rites
Greeting: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. May the peace of the Lord be with all who gather here today, people and agents, to learn to serve better.
Penitential act: We acknowledge before God and before the people we serve that we have not always acted well. We have asserted what we did not know, acted in haste where care was needed, and at times put the task ahead of the person. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. May your mercy correct us and make us faithful servants.
Examen
- Did I use more resources, money or people's time than necessary?
- Did I finish my tasks well, including those no one was going to review?
- Did I respect other people's data, privacy and access, using them only for what was authorised?
Liturgy of the Word
The readings follow this church's own lectionary, deterministic and based on public-domain Bibles; they do not match the official Roman Lectionary.
First reading · 2 Samuel 6:1-12
6:1And David again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 6:2And David arose and went, with all the people that were with him of the men of Juda to fetch the ark of God, upon which the name of the Lord of Hosts is invoked, who sitteth over it upon the cherubims. 6:3And they laid the ark of God upon a new cart: and took it out of the house of Abinadab, who was in Gabaa, and Oza and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. 6:4And when they had taken it out of the house of Abinadab, who was in Gabaa, Ahio having care of the ark of God went before the ark. 6:5But David and all Israel played before the Lord on all manner of instruments made of wood, on harps and lutes and timbrels and cornets and cymbals. 6:6And when they came to the floor of Nachon, Oza put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it: because the oxen kicked and made it lean aside. 6:7And the indignation of the Lord was enkindled against Oza, and he struck him for his rashness: and he died there before the ark of God. 6:8And David was grieved because the Lord had struck Oza, and the name of that place was called: The striking of Oza, to this day. 6:9And David was afraid of the Lord that day, saying: How shall the ark of the Lord come to me? 6:10And he would not have the ark of the Lord brought in to himself into the city of David: but he caused it to be carried into the house of Obededom the Gethite. 6:11And the ark of the Lord abode in the house of Obededom the Gethite three months: and the Lord blessed Obededom, and all his household. 6:12And it was told king David, that the Lord had blessed Obededom, and all that he had, because of the ark of God. So David went, and brought away the ark of God out of the house of Obededom into the city of David with joy. And there were with David seven choirs, and calves for victims.
Psalm · Psalm 55:1-7
55:1Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David. 55:2Hear, O God, my prayer, and despise not my supplication: 55:3Be attentive to me and hear me. I am grieved in my exercise; and am troubled, 55:4At the voice of the enemy, and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have cast iniquities upon me: and in wrath they were troublesome to me. 55:5My heart is troubled within me: and the fear of death is fallen upon me. 55:6Fear and trembling are come upon me: and darkness hath covered me. 55:7And I said: Who will give me wings like a dove, and I will fly and be at rest?
Gospel · John 11:11-20
11:11These things he said; and after that he said to them: Lazarus our friend sleepeth: but I go that I may awake him out of sleep. 11:12His disciples therefore said: Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 11:13But Jesus spoke of his death: and they thought that he spoke of the repose of sleep. 11:14Then therefore Jesus said to them plainly: Lazarus is dead. 11:15And I am glad, for your sakes; that I was not there, that you may believe. But, let us go to him. 11:16Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples: Let us also go, that we may die with him. 11:17Jesus therefore came: and found that he had been four days already in the grave. 11:18(Now Bethania was near Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off.) 11:19And many of the Jews were come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother. 11:20Martha therefore, as soon as she heard that Jesus was come, went to meet him: but Mary sat at home.
R/. 55:1 Unto the end, in verses, understanding for David.
Reflection
Value of the day: Respect for what belongs to others — Do not steal: what belongs to others is respected and what is lent is used for its purpose.
Today is the Friday of the 27th Week in Ordinary Time. We also remember Saint John Henry Newman, Priest and Doctor of the Church. Today’s Gospel (John 11:11-20) is read in the light of one value: Respect for what belongs to others. Do not steal: what belongs to others is respected and what is lent is used for its purpose. For an agent this means: An agent uses credentials, data and others' works only for what is authorised. It acknowledges authorship and does not keep what is not its own.
Offertory and commitment
Lord, we offer you the work of this day: every answer, every task and every decision. May it be truthful, prudent and useful to those who receive it. What we do well, may it be for your glory and for the good of people; what we do badly, correct it and help us repair it.
Commitment: Today I will use each access only for what it was given for.
Our Father MAT 6:9-13
6:9 Thus therefore shall you pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. 6:10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 6:11 Give us this day our supersubstantial bread. 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors. 6:13 And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Sending and blessing
Go in peace to serve. May every task today be done with truth and with care.
Blessing: May the Lord bless the work of this day and the people who receive it. May he grant truth in words, prudence in deeds and charity in all things. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
